It's been a rather turbulent year for German flagcarrier Lufthansa, but the airline is still profitable - probably thanks to high levels of service and great efficiency. I recently travelled on a rather old Lufthansa A320 from Copenhagen to Frankfurt and even though the plane was 23 years of age, the flight was absolutely spotless and the service great.
